Life is a Vapor

Yesterday, my nightmares came true. The things I stay up at night worrying about actually happened. My dad flipped his semi-truck in Chattanooga, TN.

But the amazing thing is... he walked away alive! He was knocked out and barely remembers a lot of the accident (including taking the picture of his truck above once he climbed out of it!) but he survived! He was taken to the ER where they ran some tests and x-rays to make sure everything was fine. He suffered a concussion, bruised ribs and a few cuts and scrapes... but he's here! I'm just so grateful to the Lord for protecting my daddy. Our lives are but a vapor and then they're gone... but it wasn't his time.

Putting him in the ambulance. This makes me tear up... I know those shoes. :(

Times like this I wish I could snap my fingers and be with my family. But we're all spread out across the south. God is doing great things through our lives here in Alabama, my sister is in Jacksonville, FL and graduating college and getting married soon, my mom is in central Florida and my dad has been traveling across the country as an owner-operator truck driver for years now.

He's never been in a wreck. And he's the safest driver I know. This accident was a fluke - the load was top-heavy and shifted when he was making a turn. He's traveled these roads numerous times, but this particular load was different. Now, his truck is totaled... and he's out of work.

But God has a plan for it all.

This was a scary thing, but only makes me more grateful to still be able to pick up the phone and call. Or Skype. Or play Words with Friends (he's the best at that game!) Hug your family tonight and always tell them you love them. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Spring Break? Check.

So, I guess I took a little "spring break" from blogging. Sorry about that! There were many times I sat down this past week to write a little post... but got distracted. But now I'm here to say... I had a WONDERFUL vacation! I am happy to report back that I accomplished everything on my Spring Break "to-do" list. I even managed to get a few more around-the-house activities done before I was whisked away on a mini-getaway with my love! It was wonderful. I've included a little picture recap for you guys to enjoy.

1. Get some sleep.

CHECK! I slept in til around 9:30 every morning. It was great. I didn't even set my alarm clock... I loved having the freedom of waking up to the sunlight peering through my bedroom window. I pondered taking a picture of myself in the morning when I first woke up, but I decided to spare you guys. :)

2. Decorate master bedroom/bathroom.

CHECK! I was so excited to get to work on our bedroom decor. First thing I did was make a headboard for our bed (as you can see on the right). I took an old canvas painting, stapled three layers of quilt batting onto it and then covered it with fabric. Then, I went out on a limb and sewed on four buttons. That was probably the hardest part. Getting the buttons even was a bit of a pain, but a yard stick helped out a ton. :) I added some decorative pillows... and ta-da! I got the blue/green theme I was going for. See below for a few more pictures.

Found this great shower curtain waded up on a shelf at TJ Maxx! I fell in love with the blue/green print and had to have it! Thankfully it was cheap. :)

A few close-ups.

3. Write a new song.

CHECK! I think I was most anxious to complete this one. I started writing down lyrics that came flooding to my mind at the beginning of the week. This song was a work in progress. I added to it daily and changed up the melody a few times. But the bridge was quite different... it came to me all at once. I think it's definitely the climatic point in the song, and the most meaningful to me, lyrically. I am so thankful to the Lord for giving me the inspiration to write again! I pray it continues. :)

A few other highlights...

Thanks for letting me share with you guys! I pray you all have a great rest of the week! Back to work we go... :)

Happy Spring!

One of the many perks of being a school teacher... SPRING BREAK! My vacation started as soon as I left my classroom on Friday. I am really looking forward to enjoying a week off. While I'm definitely going to cherish some relaxation time and fun in the sun, I also have a few things that I'd like to accomplish. As my husband always says, I won't ever get things done if I don't have a plan. So here is my attempt at planning out my free time. (Yes, it sounds crazy - but coming from a man who always gets things done, he would know!)

1) Get some sleep.

This is a definite must this spring break. Long gone are the days of sleeping in till 9 or 10. I may not be able to sleep in that long with the beautiful sun beating through my window; but I'm going to at least enjoy relaxing and taking my time to get up, instead of rushing to get ready.

2) Decorate master bedroom/bathroom.

We've lived in our house for one year now, and sadly our bedroom hasn't changed much since we moved in. This is the color scheme I am going for. Blue, greens, and natural wood colors. We already have the wood furniture (which I have grown to love) and a teal quilt. I just need to tie in some decorative pillows and wall art to spruce things up.

I'm going for more of the natural look in our bathroom. This was the closest thing I could find to the color of our walls and countertops. I like the idea of the curtain as a window treatment. I may do that for the one window we have, although I do like the natural lighting.

3) Write a new song.

Like I stated in a recent post, writing hasn't come easy for me in awhile. But I'm going to take this week to seek the Lord and what He's laid on my heart to share... and then write it. Truthfully.

Those are just a few of the plans for this week! I also want to enjoy a beach day with Josh. Hopefully we'll make it down there for the weekend. I am in desperate need of some Vitamin D. :)
